Great vintages, serious vineyards...

Last November whilst in France I purchased an outstanding cellar of aged wine. The collection featured many rarely seen bottlings including an amazing selection of Grand Cru Burgundies.

Finding quality aged Burgundy has become particularly difficult - the supply has dried up and prices have risen enormously - so this was a particularly significant purchase.

It has been almost a year since our last Aged Burgundy Dinner and before I head back to France I thought it would be fun to host another rare wine dinner.

This dinner features 16 bottles of aged Burgundy. The youngest vintage is 1969 - hard to believe it will be 50 years old next year. There are no fewer than six 1959's - one of my all-time favourite vintages - and a host of other wines.

I have created 4 brackets - Nuits-St-Georges, Corton, Clos Vougeot and Grand Cru Gevrey-Chambertin. They are all communes with the ability to cellar for extended periods. Comparing wines in each bracket should be a fascinating exercise.

The dinner will be at ESP (Estelle by Scott Picket). The restaurant has 2 Chef's Hats in the Good Food Guide 2018. Scott's food is always exciting and will match the wines brilliantly.

With 12 Grand Crus in the lineup this will be an exciting dinner and tasting for those curious about serious aged Burgundy.
