With a long history Domaine Francois Buffet comprises 8 hectares of vineyards mostly in Volnay and Pommard. The domaine is run by Marc-Olivier Buffet, the eighth generation.
Domaine Buffet own a wonderful range of Premier Crus Volnay and Pommard. The variety of their holdings makes for some very interesting and varied expressions of terroir.
The domaine prefers to keep things simple and sells most of their Premier Crus at the same price!
All wines are available at a 15% Pre Arrival Discount.

My first 2020! It may only be Bourgogne but there is a lot to be discovered.
Bright red. Nose of red cherry, zingy raspberry and is there a little whole bunch? Serious! The fruit is juicy and deeply flavoured, the framework of acid and tannin are spot on. The intensity suggests not just low cropping levels but old vines. The wine tastes for all intents like a Volnay. How high up the scale? You’ll need to try for yourself.
All I can say is, boy, there is a lot of pleasure here for little money.

The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Nanbartons 1er Cru was completely de-stemmed. Fresh cranberry and wild strawberry on the nose, the palate is well balanced with good grip, a little firmness on the finish with a touch of green olive on the aftertaste. Fine, but I suspect, not long-term. 86-88 Points

The 2020 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses 1er Cru, completely de-stemmed, is more cohesive on the nose compared to the Savigny with some lovely crisp brambly red fruit and minerals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well judged acidity with a wonderful delineation on the finish. Excellent. 90-92 Points

The 2020 Volnay Village comes from two climats and is 100% de-stemmed. Tightly-wound on the nose, it offers cranberry and raspberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, slightly candied in personality with a pastille-like purity on the finish. Very fine. (Drink between 2024-2034). 89-91 Points

The 2020 Pommard Village, completely de-stemmed, has a fragrant nose with a mixture of red and black fruit, a touch of wilted rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite sturdy, a little curt on the finish but it should flesh out with bottle age. 87-89 Points

The 2020 Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru has slightly darker fruit, cranberry and touches of blackcurrant, very well defined with nicely integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, lightly spiced with a gentle grip on the saline finish. Good potential. 91-93 Points

The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins. This is very saline with hints of black olive towards the finish. This will be fascinating to watch age in bottle. There is fine transparency on the nose: vivid red cherries and crushed strawberry aromas. The palate is harmonious with silky tannins, modest depth with a pliant tart finish. Very fine. 90-92 Points

The palate is medium-bodied with fine backbone, very fresh and quite saline with a brisk, quite spicy finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent.

The 2020 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru comes from nearly century old vines that still produced up to 40hl/ha. It has a very harmonious bouquet with earthy red fruit, loamy, lovely graphite scents that emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, very saline in the mouth, quite pure with a structured, marine-influenced finish. Excellent. (Drink between 2025-2045). 92-94 Points
