Domaine Long-Depaquit Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru 2020 and 2019 Pre Arrival Offer

Chablis' Most Famous Grand Cru
There are few wine aficionados who do not consider Les Clos to be Chablis' finest vineyard.
Jasper Morris MW says "Not only the largest of the grand crus, but the finest of them. Les Clos was the first vineyard to be planted by the monks, who usually had a pretty good eye for the best spots. Most experts since have declared Les Clos as primus inter pares, the first among its peers."
Our shipment from Domaine Long-Depaquit is due early next month.
We still have some bottles of Les Clos from 2019 and 2020 available.

Two parcels combine to form this wine: one mid-slope and another at the top of the slope. This is as impressively big as one would expect a Clos to be, yet in contrast, it shows delicate fresh herb and yeasty notes. On the finish, the wine is an echo chamber of its concentration and needs time to settle down. 2025-34. 96 Points

Full yellow, just when you think the bouquet is going to be rich and ripe there is a certain balancing grassiness, and they use a little more wood here. Grassy and grapey, with a little heat at the back and now the wood kicks in. This needs longer elevage and may well come out at a higher level. 92-95 Points

Similarly open to the Vaudésir but this nose is characterized by an airy volume. Nicely incisive, showing a fine and pure minerality – growing in intensity too. Framed with a faint tannin this wine has a bit of everything. Poised, almost a little tension. I think a great grand cru – the finish narrower but far from a modest length.

Beautiful steely lime peel on the nose, youthful and elegant. Rich and concentrated palate. Lovely lime with acidity. A beautiful wine. 95 Points and Gold Medal

Fullish yellow. The complex nose shows the power of the vintage, a few drier tannins behind, fair acidity. I find this backward and difficult to judge. I think the Clos character is there, but it is reticent today. The palate does deliver detail and layers of fruit though. The finish does also suggest the necessary class. Really good length here. 94 Points

A little oak, a little patisserie, but a flexing of muscle – still fresh – fruit too. More density – mouth-filling again – but I’ve the impression much is held at the core of this wine. The best, most open part is the finish – wide – some interesting almost mandarin fruit in the agrume mix. Tons of potential – but wait at least 3 years…
