Rare Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses from Pousse d'Or, Albert Bichot And Amiot-Servelle

One of Burgundy's great vineyards
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses is one of Burgundy's most desirable wines. Despite being a Premier Cru its magnificent aroma and complex, silky palate make it a wine of reverence.
Les Amoureuses produces seductive, aromatic, complex and supple wines that outperform many Grand Crus. Accordingly, it is priced like a Grand Cru. The vineyard is 5.4 hectares in size and there are not a lot of producers. Clive Coates states "This is a vineyard which, like Clos St Jacques in Gevrey-Chambertin, is regarded by most - and priced accordingly - as the equal of a grand cru.... I regularly prefer it to Bonnes-Mares. But Bonnes-Mares it is not. Les Amoureuses is really a sort of younger brother to Musigny itself: perfumed, silky-smooth, intense and soft rather than brutal and muscular, and with real finesse".
Today we present three Les Amoureuses from the 2018 vintage.
This is a special opportunity to add some rare bottles to your cellar.

Vigorous fresh purple, the nose needs teasing out – there is clearly a considerable volume of fruit but we are tasting in the cellar at a cool temperature and it is not bounding out of the glass. There is a lovely weight of fresh red fruit on the palate but this may have been picked just a little too early. It will certainly hold up well though and the length is there. When I communicated these thoughts I was told that actually this is typical of their Amoureuses when young! 93-96 Points

This red features great purity to its rose, strawberry and cherry flavors. Spicy oak and mineral add depth, yet this is all about finesse and an ethereal quality that's distinctive. It's balanced, with bright acidity and firm, dusty tannins on the finish that are yet to be resolved. Best from 2022 through 2043. 95 Points
Wine and Spirit Magazine
From a parcel owned and farmed by a family on Bichot team, this Amoureuses has the stamina of a Musigny. The wines fragrance glows with intensity, layering rose and rock, rosehips and red plums. Oak plays a prominent role in the youthful structure, but the wine sustains it, turning the oak to sophisticated advantage. Amply ripe yet runway-model thin, the wine lasts on floral notes, along with a sense of rocky grandeur.

Fine lively fresh mid purple. 15% whole bunch. Waiting for the tidal wave of fruit, which doesn’t happen on the nose, rather more in the mouth, but with some strictness of structure too. The aftertaste shows more of the Amoureuses seduction. 92-96 Points
Neal Martin, Vinous
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru uses 15% whole bunch from the 25-year-old vines (the rest are 10 years old). It has a fragrant, elegant bouquet of blackberry, briar, sage and subtle oxtail aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, very fine tannins, and here the Les Amoureuses character really shines. Veins of blue fruit and spices burst through on the finish. There is an appealing crescendo to this wine and it should age with style and panache. (Drink between 2024-2045).

An amazing lineup of wines including three 100+ Year Old Bottles!
1 SEAT LEFT

It has been a long time since our last old wine dinner. Over the last two years we have been quietly accumulating a small cache of rare aged bottles.
The time has come to pull the corks on an amazing lineup of wine.
At this dinner we will enjoy 16 venerable bottles.
The first and youngest is from 1967 - already over 50 years of age. We will then progress through a range of Premier and Grand Cru Burgundies (and an aged Beaujolais) to a pair of Rhones including an extremely rare wartime Cote-Rotie. Then we have a brace of Bordeaux around 100 years of age. We have enjoyed the Chateau Guillot Pomerol 1917 previously. Two aged Sauternes follow - one from WWII, the other over 100 years of age. To finish a vintage Madeira from 1912.
For lovers of old wines and those of you who are curious this is a not-to-be-missed opportunity.
We have booked the magnificent private room at Scott Pickett's latest venture - Smith St Bistrot. Five classic French courses will accompany the wines.
We look forward to seeing you at this exciting event.
