Cuvee du Vatican was first produced 1902, although the Diffonty family history as vine growers goes back to 1673. Felician Diffonty was the mayor of Chateauneuf-du-Pape from 1963 until 1995 (when this wine was made).
From 1309 to 1376 seven Pope's resided in Avignon in the Rhone valley. The name of the wine and the molding on the bottle recall this interesting period of history.
The domaine owns 22.4 hectares of vines with large holdings in the top climats Rayas and La Crau.
Finding wines for major anniversaries is never easy and we thought this wine from 1964 might be of interest.
The only tasting note we found was on CellarTracker and simply says "This was sensational!".
