John Gilman "View from the Cellar"
The les Poisets parcel was hit hard by frost in 2016, so seventy-five percent of the crop was lost. Consequently, Monsieur Lignier only had enough grapes to make about a cask and a half of the wine, so this has been raised in a one year-old, three hundred and forty-two liter barrel. The wine has turned out beautifully and shows none of the sturdiness of some heavily frosted wines, as it offers up a beautifully elegant bouquet of black plums, sweet dark berries, espresso, a hint of nuttiness, dark soil tones and a gentle base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, long and complex, with a sappy core of black fruit, great backend minerality, fine-grained tannins and impressive length and grip on the classy finish. This will be one very suave Nuits when it is ready to drink! (Drink between 2023-2060)
