Still a fine deep colour though Clos St-Jean is typically lighter than other vineyards. The nose is ripe and deep but with a little more restraint and style. This has a tighter grained texture to it, needs a little longer to come together. Ripe cherry notes amongst a range of red fruit, with fine persistence. 91-94 Points
Deep red, almost black rim but light and bright. Juicy fruit: a melange of cherry, raspberry and strawberry, crushed rock and dusty spice. Seductive, almost glossy palate, charming and thought provoking. A bit like a dark chocolate with a gentle cherry-raspberry liquor note. The wine has structure and depth with fine, well integrated tannins. Charming but intense. Clos St-Jean is white and red territory but like much of Chassagne the old folk will tell you this is definitely red wine terroir.
Very seductive and perfumed, with notes of crunchy red cherries, some cranberry, some violets, a touch of sweet spices, but also some minerality, Building up on the palate with some air. It‘s medium-full bodied, with beautifully pure fruit, has medium+ tannin that is very good quality but quite present at the moment, medium-high acidity and overall very good persistence and length. A beautifully pure, but also structured Clos-St-Jean from this producer that is new to me. I like this a lot but would give it a few years to absorb the tannin a little or drink it with a piece of red meat. 92 Points
