The 2020 Saint-Aubin Les Combes 1er Cru clearly displays more mineralité compared to the La Charmois, more terroir-expression and energy. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, the oak neatly integrated with a lovely hazelnut and lightly spiced finish. Good persistence - this is a well-crafted, quite delicious Saint-Aubin from Philippe Colin. (Drink between 2023-2035). 91 Points
Les Combes is located on the edge of Saint-Aubin which borders Chassagne-Montrachet. The vineyard sits in a valley, just below the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru vineyard Les Chenevottes. Soils are limestone and calcareous clay with a high clay content. Les Combes represents the seamless combination between delicacy and richness that is comparable to its neighbour, the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes. Fresh fruit, like apricot or lemon emerge on both the nose and palate, and a stunning finish. Ageing potential: 5-7 years.
