Sulphured at racking for the first time and will adjust before bottling. Good depth of bright purple and notably more fruit weight on the nose than the village Monthelie. Lovely dark raspberry with a good fresh undertow, and fair length. A nicely balanced wine throughout.

The 2020 Monthélie Les Clous 1er Cru has a fresh and vibrant bouquet, taut and fresh, perhaps its brightness enhance by lower alcohol compared to Bouley’s other cuvées, this standing at around 13.5°. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, taut, rather edgy tannins. Quite compact and stubbornly linear on the finish, this will require 3-4 years in bottle to gain more horizontality.
