Chateau Simian

Chateau Simian

Chateau Simian is located in Piolenc at the foot of the Massif d'Uchaux not far from Orange.

Marcelle Ladret inherited Chateau Simian from Sophie Simian in 1920. With her husband they renovated and expanded the vineyards. Their daughter Madeleine married Yves Serguier, a young winemaker from Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Successive generations have expanded the estate to around 27 hectares of which 5.8 hectares are in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyards are in three lieu-dits located at the very north of the appellation: Cabrieres, La Bertaude and Palestor.

All of the vineyards are grown organically and biodynamically.

They produce two red Chateauneuf-du-Papes - Les Traversier which is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% each Mourvedre and Cinsault and Grandes Grenachieres d'Hippolyte which is a blend of 95% Grenache (80+ year old vines) and 5% mixed varieties. Only about 4,000 bottles of this prestige cuvee are produced.
